1871
The year that De Vetpan was established in Bergen op Zoom, The Netherlands. Cultural center in the city for nearly 100 years.

De Vetpan, an association building in Bergen op Zoom from 1871 till 1963. It was the first cultural center in the city and also one of the most popular places to hang out in those days. Maria Hendrika van den Broek was the manager of De Vetpan in the early days and she passed the ownership on in 1938 to her daughter Maria Warmoeskerken - van Broekhoven and her husband Jacobus Warmoeskerken (my grandparents). They both lived and worked in the building for 25 years and raised 9 kids, one of them being my dad.
De Vetpan closed in 1963 to make room for an office building, so the building was demolished in 1964 and the Warmoeskerken family moved to the "Vijverberg" in Bergen op Zoom. De Vetpan was one of the favourite hangouts for most of Bergen op Zoom's citizens, and therefore the Warmoeskerken family was better know as the family from De Vetpan.
The building might have been demolished in 1963, the name however is still in the minds of the older generation that lived in Bergen op Zoom in the glorious days of De Vetpan. The name pops up every now and then when historical articles are published in local news papers and magazines. In 2000 the name even appeared in the anthem of "Vastenavend" (carnival). So you can say that De Vetpan is still relevant to Bergen op Zoom years after the disappearance.

I am De Vetpan

I Siebe Warmoeskerken am the youngest member of the 3rd "Vetpan" generation and my goal is to keep the name related to the Warmoeskerken family. On the 1st of January in 2010 I officially registered the name "De Vetpan" as a branding of my photography and craftwork. By having the name registered I brought the name back to life and into the family after more than 45 years of silence.
Some say that I'm a centipede. I just think that humans are able to execute more than a single profession. You can find me in a local woodshop during normal business hours, buidling the most various products out of wood. I am envolved in the whole process from concept to development/CAD to production and the final installement/delivery of the product. 8 years of specialized education and 5 years of professional experience made me into a creative entrepreneur that is able to realize the most complex ideas made out of wood.
De Vetpan is the place that exposes the creativity of my brain through photography and all thats related to woodcraft, design and the modern lifestyle. I am a self educated photographer, and at this moment I'm shooting digital, medium format and impossible film. Does that make me a professional photographer? no, but I have enough knowledge to create all the content that is published on this site.
